This week’s special guest on the Remarkable Pets podcast is Sonja Needs from Scent Dogs. They educate people and dogs of all experience levels and ANY breeds – on working with dogs in scent activities.
Sonja’s has 30 years’ experience training dogs in obedience, tracking and agility, along with publishing her first book “Tracking for Companion and Sports Dogs”.
Sonja’s day job is lecturing in Animal science at The University of Melbourne including sensory science and human and canine olfactory systems aka smell for those of us without a science degree. Her research involves using dogs for detection in conservation and for agricultural pest and diseases.
She is currently helping the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) developing Scentwork as a sanctioned sport in Australia.
Sonja lives with her detection dogs, Keely the border terrier and Quinn the Shepherd X (Lykos) and occasionally with Bertie the Labrador.
